SUBBED

I was Ms. Wassynger today at Greenville Middle. My first-ever substitute teaching experience.

I became a sub when I left Mann...my nod to the “safety-net.” Since becoming fully integrated into Greenville’s highly technical sub system, my phone’s been buzzing with offers. Today, when the recorded voice said “gifted and talented,” I beeped yes back.

“Gifted and talented” meant high-level eighth grade English. So it was me and Promethean myths today...really great kids, too. I had no idea I’d like working with middle schoolers. I mean, I hated middle school. But today was really great.

I never told the kids my actual name. I started with Dr. Jankinston, then switched to Mr. Tacocasa...finally Mr. Hitlerstein seemed to work. At the end of the day, a super-sweet eighth-grade girl gave me a hand-made “sign” to thank me for being “the best sub ever.”
