NASA’s not going to the moon.Obama has rejected plans for a “moon shot.” Instead, he’s going to fund us sending people into Earth orbit on rockets (not shuttles) to...do...something sciencey, I guess.
I always had deep reservations about that space shuttle gizmo. Never quite figured out what they were doing up there. Like...it’s space. Wasn’t something fantastic happening?
My suggestion for all inhabited planets of the universe: if you can get guys into space...then, get them into space! Don’t just circle your own planet for weeks on end doing science fair projects. That’s just orbital navel-gazing.
NASA was the best thing progressives ever dreamed up for America. Its vision was inspiring, bold, spiritual. But nowadays, even progressives see manned space exploration as an improper application of government.
I guess it’s up to the private space guys to provide our cultural aspiration and adventure, now.
