MASTERPIECE

“You’ve got to love life to have life, and you’ve got to have life to love life.”

I am pleased to report that my cast and crew did Thornton Wilder’s masterful OUR TOWN justice. They played it as it is meant to be: fearlessly, joyfully...respectfully.

Poor productions of OUR TOWN are frequent. Partially because the play is performed more than any other American play. But also because many actors (not all of whom are students) play the solemnity of Act III, throughout. Acts I and II must be lively, joyful. If they are not, Act III is a whitewashed tomb.

Many Carlbrook parents opt to maintain the privacy of their child’s identity...so I can’t name them all in this forum. Suffice it to say that every student involved with this play impressed me. To a person, they gave OUR TOWN everything they had. And it shows on stage.
