The Scarface School Play really made me laugh.There are so many levels to the Funny here: the ambition of elementary school drama teachers, the blind devotion of parents, even the sharing-my-life-with-the-world aspect of YouTube.
And lest you be taken in...no...it’s not “real.” I mean, it really happened...but it happened to make you laugh. This is no window into suburban bad taste.
Or is it?
Is it OK to involve kids this small in such a prank? Does it...take any of their naivety?
Will Farrell’s landlady short? The MGMT video I really, really love?
Are the children involved invited to the screening parties? Probably not. They wouldn’t get the joke.
I wonder what they do get, though. It’s an issue for those of us who work with young people on stages and camera: how far is too far?
