INDIGNART

These apocalyptic laments, angry threats…this self-righteous indignation from those who rail against the Governor’s call for budget cuts for “the arts” in South Carolina...

In your defense of state expenditures on “art,” do you advocate defunding state health care for the poor, spending less on public education? Are you willing to give up routine highway maintenance?

Businesses in our state are simply not growing anymore (e.g. an economic recession). That means there is less income (both corporate and personal) available for the state to tax…so there’s less revenue for the state to spend on stuff like “the arts.”

Why aren’t you rallying to the cause of big corporations in our state? Or cozying up to rich people, exhorting them to invest their cash reserves in businesses, so that we can grab more in taxes from them?

It kinda seems like your position is absurd.

“Don’t cut anything!”

I don’t follow.
