Emily and I wrote a play for Greenville Little Theatre’s “24 Hour Play Festival” last weekend.

Writers are given four writing prompts at 7 PM Friday, and write a short play…before 8 AM Saturday. Then, directors and actors stage the new play. And at 8 PM, the plays are performed for an audience.

The prompts:

  • explore the theme, “take the money and run"
  • use a tiara as a prop
  • one character must be a wedding DJ
  • there should be one slow-motion sequence

I’m really proud of our play: “Neo-Maxi-Zoom-Dweebie.” (And we were awarded the judges' playwriting award!)

Our play assumes that John Hughes’ “brat pack” classic, THE BREAKFAST CLUB, was based on actual people and events. Now 25 years after the release of the popular film, the student council of Shermer High School has invited three of the people who inspired it to a fundraising event.
