I’ve been thinking of how a truly independent filmmaker can make a go of it without film festivals, distribution deals, or resorting to the horror genre.Been following several musicians…noticing how they are finding new ways to make the music they love and sustain themselves financially, independently.
The “American Idol” model seems as out-of-date as Miss America and The Oscars do, circa 2011. No one who succeeds at that level makes the music they like…or truly be in control of their own lives. It’s like going to work for a big-huge corporation. The salary is the only true benefit…one that comes at (for me) too high a price.
Topspin is interesting.
This might be a useful tool for connecting my films with my backers, followers, and fans…commercially.
Which, ultimately, is my current professional goal right now: securing the link between my work and people whom genuinely like and appreciate it.
