I know many “Christian artists.” Also, a few “artists who also happen to be Christians.” There are good, honest, decent folks who espouse traditional Christian beliefs in both camps. They are musicians, graphic designers, photographers, illustrators, painters, writers…who feel led to make beautiful things. And they see their faith as intrinsic to what they create. If fact, most see the very act of creation as one of Christ-worship.
I admire artists who find a way to fully integrate both art and faith into their lives.
Though I do have a problem when an artist uses his work as a…tool. Creation specifically designed to deliver a desired result.
This, I believe, turns human expression (even faithful human expression) into propaganda.
The resulting art, I believe, becomes something else. It becomes…flat, dead.
Most design/music art I see from artists creating on church staffs is like this. Something…less, purporting to be something more.
