RAPTURE

When I was a small child, I was terrified…terrified by a Sunday night screening of A THIEF IN THE NIGHT at Bayside Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN.

THIEF remains the most successful “Christian” movie of all time. It’s subject matter—the rapture and end-of-times tribulation that follows—ends with a climatic guillotine execution in a church parking lot.

When the “Left Behind” book series came out, I used to speculate with anyone who’d read them: “If the rapture actually happened like the books suggest…why wouldn’t everyone who is left behind just read left behind copies of ‘Left Behind?’ They’d know what had just happened…and not follow the Anti-Christ.”

Of late, a whole lot of people are mocking Harold Camping and his followers who’ve publically broadcasted that the rapture’s happening this Saturday afternoon.

But why? Why mock them? What harm has Camping done…predicting a Saturday rapture?

Why not let them believe?
