CHEERS

Live theatre is most often seen as a playwright’s art, first...an actor’s second. And if you’re on Broadway or West End, it is quite often a designer’s artistic playground.

But seeing director Christopher Marchand’s BRICK The Play this week in Sydney has made me realize again how valuable the work of a stage director is.

Chris did an outstanding job of casting the show. Then, he surrounded himself with brilliant collaborators. He has demonstrated great taste, maturity, a solid visual sense.

I’m so pleased with the work he has done with the play. I was not half the director he is when I was his age, and I’m excited to see where he goes next.

Directing may be in Chris’ blood (dad’s a film director, and cousin directs for one of Sydney’s hottest theaters), but...with BRICK, he has earned the chops to meet any challenge...all by himself.
