DETAIL

Delirium is beginning to set in...over 24 hours without sleep..and another hour before I board my last flight...Tokyo to Sydney on Quantas.

The airport seems to be staffed primarily by thousands of young Japanese men and women in sharp uniforms. Women I see working at the airline ticket counters are dressed like their counterparts in the duty-free shops...businesslike, but feminine. The best part of the mens’ uniforms is the shiny belt buckle...and the hats. Great hats…

10 bucks buys (appx.) 1000 yen. And most of the so-called fast food served at the airport will set you back a couple of thousand.

The weather here in Tokyo is similar (today, at least) to Columbia, SC. In fact...much of the Japan I’ve seen in the airport is familiar. Design-wise, Japan and the United States have been collaborating for decades...and you can tell.
