I can’t write a feature-length screenplay because every time I try to write anything brilliant and ambitious, the minutiae of life takes over and won’t let me finish.
I’ll say: “I’m going to write for four hours today!” And then the washing machine breaks and I end up spending all day trying to fix it.
Or my son is sick and has to stay home from school...etc, etc.
Or...a client calls and we have to revise copy (that I should have revised last week) and I wind up spending all day writing eight-word billboard headlines.
Another thing: I usually like what I’m writing as I write...then hate it when I re-read it. It’s like listening to your voice on tape. It never sounds like me...or what I think I should sound like.
Writing is absolutely impossible.
