END

It’s been twenty-five years since I’ve seen any of the guys in the band...my “brothers in eternity.”

Later today we’ll collect ourselves in the circa 1975 sanctuary of a small Southern Baptist church in Edgefield, South Carolina to bury Scotty Simmons, 3:16’s ace drummer.

Yep...we’ll all be there this afternoon. And there will be something in each of our eyes...a desperate thirst that remains unquenched, a soul-ache that each of us has tried to resolve in our own way for as long as we can remember.

(We were trying with the band, you know. It’s just didn’t...work out.)

Me, I’m hoping (praying?) that facing death eye-to-eye in the little country church I was baptized in will give me a sense of true peace...put those demons 3:16 so loved to sing about to rest.

Finally.

Forever. And ever. Amen.
