CLARIFICATION

Lest you misinterpret this artist (and blog) as pro-bohemian...

I believe that every life can be, should be lived as artfully as possible. And I believe that free-market capitalism will support that. I believe that free people doing what they love and finding personal and financial reward is The American Dream. Or, it should be. Not becoming wealthy or expressing my materialistic urge.

There is a false dichotomy that continues to be perpetuated in the United States...that personal happiness comes only with financial security…or with some manner of soul-splitting compromise.

I choose to pursue this art-life for financial and personal reward. In equal measure. Trading security for happiness (or vice versa) is not acceptable. I need both.

Don’t you?

  1. I do, indeed. We also need not to let other people tell us what we want. Left to our own devices, I think most of us would lead relatively modest lives. Morally and intellectually soft as we've become, though, we tend to go in whatever direction popular culture prods us. We aren't thinking OR feeling for ourselves. Unplug, I say! Then go shopping.
