MARTI

There was a gracefulness to the event I’d not expected.

At my high school drama teacher’s retirement party last night, I found myself in the middle of a reunion of sorts with people I’d known and not known twenty-five years ago.

This mash-up of folks was a bit...odd. Back in the “good ol’ days,” we’d never have been spotted sharing a lunch table. But last night we were steady pals. No time at all had passed...and who we were, and what happened back then...hadn’t.

I mean, it’s not like we’d been enemies before...it’s just that we hadn’t been able to truly see each other then. Like now.

The gracefulness of passing time found us together last night, and it was lovely to experience.

(As was the opportunity to celebrate Mrs. Marti Suber: ageless, fearless, and kind Irmo High School drama teacher since August 1980.)
