BLAND

By so elevating multiculturalism and diversity in the arts, American artists seem to have lost any objective sense of artistic indigenity.

The modern American artist has become acutely aware of artists from every region of the world...he has become inspired by this work, influenced by it. And with this vast expansion, he has found his own unique vision—one without any regional affect or local unity.

American art has become the world’s Big Mac.

Who knew that by embracing a so-called “multi-culture” would result in such ubiquitous blandness? Which, I believe, has led to the rise of the individualistic artist.

Once, American artists served small local communities. But consumerism and communication changed this. The collage became preferable. So we spent two generations melting together.

Bland.

Bleck!

So...today we splinter into mom-and-pop niches designed to cater to very specific needs of both artists and audiences.
