JUST LIKE HEAVEN: The 2005, Mark Waters-directed, Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo joint.I cried at the end of this all-too predictable rom-com not because the cutes got together and lived happily ever after...or because my life has a dearth of loving relationships...or because they look so damn cute together.
I cry—we cry—because of the story. Because of what happens and how it happens. And when the storytellers put it all together correctly (re: Aristotle’s Poetics), it is immensely satisfying.
Think of your own life. Reflect on how desperately you want it to work out all right. The choices you make. Most in good faith. The need to believe. To please others in the process. Oh, the mistakes...the guilt, the repair and restoration.
It’s a story. It’s your story. You are the main character.
What happened today? How does it all fit?
Reese Witherspoon's face disturbs me, so I won't be seeing this one, but I did get choked up watching "The Blind Side." Not that I care a whit about sports. Which is the comment I posted before about that basketball blog. Or that I thought I posted. I think I'm turning into a troll.
