UTILITIES

Moving west in an airplane…this is just necessary.

Reshuffled deck, change of scenery, mixed-it-up. Pick your metaphor. I need this.

Maybe…we all do.

Expansive travel is expensive. And when you aren’t rich (I am not rich), it may seem a luxury. It’s not. It’s part of the schedule, a line item in the budget.

(Of course, my flight is courtesy of Continental Airlines. Last October’s trip to Australia earned me thousands of miles.)

It’s the utility bill. And everyone has to pay their bills.

Emily and I will be spending our weekend with a collection of artists, kindred spirits, good people we want to be like. I guess that’s another necessity…to be with people you want to emulate.

The Texas “Hill Country” is our destination…a place of peaceful retreat called Laity Lodge. This is going to be great.

Deck shuffling with new friends, mentors…it can only be a good thing.
