Recently, I fell in love with gathering around a table...with a couple of other actors and just...working it out. Telling each other a story. Plot as melody, making jazz. I’ve become completely fascinated with two actors being true. And I think that’s fascinating to you, too.
So, for me, making a film starts here: “If two people, who look like we do, were somewhere...put together...what would happen? Where would that somewhere be? Why would they, what happens between them, matter? That's our entire film."
A music producer friend recently said: "It's a terrible time to be in the music business. But there's never been a better time to be a musician."
I think the same is true for the cinema. I think we are on the cusp of something really big…but its not 3-D.
In a world over-saturated with media…somehow, someway...TRUE glimpses of life being lived and worked out...somehow, that has to break through. Film stories where the only "agenda" is...people looking at each other, with each other, working it out together.
In the cinema, we have this rich heritage of innovation…led by pioneers who are worth of study and admiration. These artists worked within a medium that has suddenly become digital. And consequently, democratized. Truly...for and by "the people."
Film has finally become theatre.
