INNOVATION

Teachers should have term limits. (Like United Methodist pastors.)

Every four years, public school teachers should move to a different school…where they teach different kinds of students different courses than they taught the year before.

Teachers who have successfully taught at a local high school for four years should be reassigned to a different middle or high school within the same school district.

The teacher may express their preference in the new assignment, but should not get the final say.

There are benefits to finding yourself where you never expected or even wanted to be. You have to rethink everything about what you do and how you do it. And that’s a good thing.

This plan would move elementary-certified teachers to other elementary assignments and secondary school teachers to other secondary schools. It would mean that neighborhood schools would start each year with a quarter of its faculty brand new.
