FRINGE

The Salvage Co., a New York-based theatre collective, presents the U.S. premier of H.apocalyptus at Piccolo Spoleto in Charleston this week.

I produced a couple of simple video projections for the play, then shot documentary still photos and video for them during their opening performances.

Dean Poynor’s play is directed by Katie Brook, and features actors Paul Kaufmann, E.G. Heard, and Monica Wyche. It is a fearlessly imaginative presentation of a very challenging new work…done on a tight budget within a very limited timeframe.

Katie has staged Dean’s melodrama as religious pageant. It’s a bold choice, a smart one. And her cast navigates this high concept deftly.

There are few things I enjoy as much as seeing this kind of live theatre come into its own. So proud of my colleagues, inspired by their artistic ambition, and motivated to persevere with my own endeavors.

This is fringe-worthy theatre…at a not-so-fringe festival.
