SOLUTION?

Emily and I have just written a one-act play called CAN’T STAY HERE based on several improvisation sessions with students at Carlbrook School. We block and work the play this week with the nine cast members. The show will be performed once: Sunday, January 2 at The Prizery in South Boston, Virginia.

When it became apparent that Mary Chase’s HARVEY was no longer a viable production option for my holiday residency this year, the idea of writing an original piece came to mind. The new play will certainly strike a different tone from last year’s OUR TOWN, though it does address some of Wilder’s favorite concerns.

The structure of the new play was lifted directly from Harold Pinter’s BETRAYAL: nine scenes played in reverse. Our play begins at New Years Eve party in Cambridge, midnight, 2011, and ends in a 7th grade classroom, September 11, 2001.
