Collecting a squad-sized family of filmmakers for a cross-country production is deceptively simple. Just grab your criterion collection of movie buddies, right? Notsofast.
This isn’t a Kerouacian road trip, it is a very complex, challenging creative project. With many moving parts and pieces. It is an opportunity to fail miserably. And, of course, to rise to the occasion.
How does one assemble the perfect mix of skills, personalities, and ambition to create a white-hot, three week burn of synergy?
That’s what I’m trying to figure out these days. I know lots of really talented people. People far more talented than me. The key is who goes where...how the collective fits together. Who doesn’t fit. Doesn’t fit for this project. For now.
The squadron I want to take into battle...to take this particular hill...with the fewest casualties. This is the moment when the project is made or broken.
